JOB DETAIL

We are in search of a highly proficient Optometric Technician for a great opportunity in Tulsa, OK. Top candidates will be skilled in assisting the optometrist by performing preliminary testing, documenting patient history, preparing patients for examination, and supporting clinical and administrative functions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Greet and escort patients to examination rooms
  • Obtain and document patient medical and ocular history
  • Perform preliminary testing, including:
    • Visual acuity testing

    • Autorefraction

    • Lensometry

    • Tonometry (intraocular pressure measurement)

    • Visual field testing

    • Retinal imaging (OCT/fundus photography)

  • Assist the optometrist during examinations and procedures
  • Educate patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and care
  • Clean and sterilize equipment between patients
  • Maintain exam room readiness and inventory of clinical supplies

Administrative Duties

  • Schedule patient appointments
  • Verify insurance benefits and authorizations
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Process billing and payments as needed
  • Order and manage contact lens inventory

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Completion of an optometric technician or ophthalmic assistant program (preferred)
  • 1+ year of experience in an optometry or ophthalmology setting

Certifications (Preferred but not required)

  • Certified Paraoptometric (CPO)
  • Certified Paraoptometric Assistant (CPOA)
  • CPR certification

Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic eye anatomy and vision terminology
  • Familiarity with optometric equipment and diagnostic instruments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic health record systems
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)
  • Professional appearance and positive attitude

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity to operate equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs occasionally

Hours

  • Monday and Wednesday 8am-5pm
  • Tuesday and Thursday 8am-6:30pm and Friday 7am-3pm. 

Pay

  • $15-$18/hr to start, depending on experience.
