The MVA Medical Billing Coordinator is responsible for managing the billing and reimbursement process for patients involved in motor vehicle accidents. This position handles insurance verification, claim submission, payment posting, account follow-up, and communication with insurance carriers, attorneys, patients, and healthcare providers.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable about medical billing processes, with the ability to manage multiple claims and accounts while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. Previous work history and longevity will be considered when scheduling interviews.
Responsibilities
Medical Billing & Claims:
- Process and submit medical claims related to motor vehicle accidents.
- Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, accident information, and benefits.
- Review medical records and billing documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and submit claims to auto insurance carriers, health insurance companies, and other applicable payers.
- Monitor outstanding claims and follow up on unpaid, denied, or delayed claims.
- Research claim denials and make corrections or submit appeals as necessary.
- Post insurance payments, adjustments, and patient payments accurately.
- Reconcile accounts and identify outstanding balances or discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing records and documentation.
MVA & Attorney Coordination:
- Communicate with auto insurance adjusters regarding claim status, coverage, and payment.
- Obtain and maintain necessary accident claim information, including claim numbers and adjuster contact information.
- Communicate with attorneys and law offices regarding patient accounts, balances, medical records, and outstanding claims.
- Track letters of protection (LOPs), liens, and other applicable documentation when required.
- Follow up on accounts involving third-party liability and settlement-related payments.
- Maintain organized documentation of all communication and claim activity.
- Respond professionally to patient, attorney, insurance, and provider inquiries.
- Explain billing balances, insurance processing, and account status when appropriate.
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and company privacy policies.
- Maintain accurate notes and documentation within the billing or practice management system.
- Assist with account audits, billing reports, and other administrative duties as needed.
- Meet established productivity, accuracy, and collection goals.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in medical billing, medical collections, insurance claims, or healthcare accounts receivable.
- Strong understanding of medical billing and insurance terminology.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple accounts and deadlines.
- Proficiency with computers, email, Microsoft Office, and electronic billing or practice management systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information appropriately.
Experience Needed:
- Previous experience specifically handling MVA/auto accident medical claims.
- Experience working with insurance adjusters, attorneys, or personal injury law offices.
- Knowledge of letters of protection, medical liens, third-party liability claims, and settlement accounts.
- Experience with electronic claims submission and clearinghouse systems.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and other medical billing codes.
- Experience with denial management and insurance appeals.
- Medical Billing or Revenue Cycle Management certification is a plus.
Hours:
Pay
- $19-$24/hr. depending on experience and longevity
