JOB DETAIL

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Sterile Processing / Surgical Technician to support surgical operations by ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized, assembled, prepared, and available for surgical procedures. This position may also assist the surgical team in the operating room by preparing the surgical environment, maintaining sterile technique, and providing instruments and supplies during procedures.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of sterile processing procedures, infection prevention, surgical instrumentation, and aseptic technique. Experience in an operating room, ambulatory surgery center, or hospital setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and test instruments to ensure proper function.
  • Assemble surgical instrument trays and prepare case carts according to procedure requirements.
  • Operate sterilization and disinfection equipment according to established procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization records, tracking documentation, and quality control records.
  • Inspect sterile packages for proper integrity, labeling, and expiration requirements.
  • Properly store and maintain sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with inventory management and ensure necessary supplies are available for scheduled procedures.
  • Prepare the operating room with appropriate instruments, equipment, supplies, and sterile materials.
  • Maintain a sterile field and adhere to infection prevention and aseptic technique standards.
  • Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies during procedures when functioning in the surgical technologist role.
  • Perform and verify instrument, sponge, and sharps counts according to facility procedures.
  • Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and draping as directed by the surgical team.
  • Properly handle and prepare surgical specimens for transfer to the laboratory.
  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare the operating room and instruments following procedures.
  • Identify and report damaged, missing, contaminated, or improperly functioning instruments and equipment.
  • Follow applicable hospital, OSHA, AAMI, AORN, and infection-control standards and facility policies.
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, surgeons, anesthesia personnel, sterile processing staff, and other members of the surgical team.
  • Maintain a professional, organized, and safety-focused work environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology or Sterile Processing program preferred.
  • Previous experience in sterile processing, surgical technology, an operating room, or an ambulatory surgery center required.
  • CRCST, CST, or equivalent certification preferred but not required
  • Current BLS/CPR certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization processes, infection prevention, and aseptic technique.
  • Ability to accurately identify, assemble, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain focused and maintain attention to detail for extended periods.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform the physical duties associated with surgical and sterile processing environments, including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and moving equipment.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with surgical instrument identification and tray assembly.
  • Experience with instrument tracking systems.
  • Experience with sterilization equipment and quality assurance processes.
  • Experience working directly with surgical teams in an OR environment.
  • Familiarity with AAMI, AORN, HSPA, and infection-control standards.

 

Hours: 

  • Monday – Friday 7am-4pm
  • No Evenings, Weekends, or On Call Days

 

Pay: 

  • $19 per hour to start
  • Depending on experience
