The Great Debate: Is Buying Your Resume Online Unethical?

HR Files allows potential candidates to ask questions that will be answered directly by our CEO, Darcy Swift. This month we discuss if buying your resume online is ethical or unethical?

QUESTION: I was looking up templates to help me create a style for my resume. While searching, I came across a service where you can buy an outline for your resume and cover letter online. Is it unethical to buy my resume and cover letter online? What are the rules?

ANSWER: It is not unethical to purchase a template online, however, it is expensive and very limiting. Even with AI available to help, it’s hardly ever fully accurate. There are also many websites that are set up as scams to access your personal or financial information without following through with a proper service.

You have more freedom to personalize your resume if you put it in a word document and customize it. The best way to go about building a quality resume on your own is to look at examples online and create your own template that works best for you. If you feel like you need some help getting it together, consider taking a resume building class or simply asking a close friend to look it over.

We at Swift Staffing Solutions also help our candidates tailor their resumes so they best fit the positions they are interested in so if you are looking for a medical position please feel free to come by and talk to one of our recruiters.

Please contact us if you have a question you want answered. We will feature one frequently asked question a month.
