The Surgery Counselor is responsible for assisting patients with all aspects of pre-operative preparation to promote confidence in their medical care and ensure a smooth surgical experience. This role serves as a key liaison between the physician’s office, surgical facility, patient, and primary care physician. The coordinator also educates patients on insurance coverage, including co-insurances and deductibles, and completes all required documentation accurately and efficiently.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a surgical specialty practice
- Ophthalmology experience preferred

Key Responsibilities
- Act as an effective liaison between patients, surgeons, primary care physicians, and surgical facilities throughout the pre-operative process
- Schedule all patient surgeries and pre-operative appointments, including those with primary care physicians, surgical facilities, ophthalmologists, or technicians
- Schedule post-operative appointments as required
- Arrange patient transportation when necessary
- Notify patients of all scheduled appointments in a timely manner
- Prepare surgery folders and post-operative kits
- Send required H&P forms, laboratory requests, EKGs, and radiology orders to primary care physicians
- Collect and organize all required surgical documentation, including bookings, lens orders, insurance information, H&Ps, and signed consent forms, and transfer them to the surgical facility
- Answer telephone inquiries from patients, family members, and primary care physicians regarding surgeries and related concerns
- Contact patients two days prior to surgery to confirm arrival time, answer questions, and review medication instructions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Hours/Pay:
- Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
- $17-$18 to start with bonus eligibility after training
